Shattered words. The introduction says the poet "fragments, shatters, grinds, splinters" the line until only a syllable is left — and the cover does the same to the title. POETOFRENIA METALÍRICA appears in loose letters, each rotated a different way, in three layers of colour (navy blue, orange, green) that overlap out of register, like a screen print run three times with the paper shifted. It reads in fits and starts, like the poems.

Engraved grass. The background is a textured green, with printing grain, and from the foot rises an orange field of grass in pointed blades, continuing onto the back and the flap. The author's name in lowercase, blue, at the base. The Praga colophon, with its ant, on the spine.

The open cover. A green back with a poem from the book — "the poem doesn't serve / the bird doesn't land" — and the flap in navy blue with the introduction by Viriato Gaspar; the other flap, in orange, carries the author's portrait.
